While different disco is a break up song, it's more about finding clarity while also feeling conflicted and bitter. My intention was to capture that feeling without a romantic filter in the lyrics.

The instrumentation is on the minimal side, because I focused on something I know I could perform myself live. It is bass and rhythm forward. My reference listening track while producing was Nobody by Mitski.

new lights, same room,
new beat, same groove,
same spot by the front left speaker,
prayin' that you won't be there.
feel it vibrate, thoughts on replay,
almost get carried away,
and then i swear i hear your name.

i dont wish you the best,
i dont wish you the worst,
i dont care if it hurts,
i dont need you.

i look over my right shoulder,
starting to fall behind,
off beat and out of time.
delusional per usual,
trying to dance and forget,
remind myself it's in my head.

i dont wish you the best,
i dont wish you the worst,
i dont care if it hurts,
i dont need…

you, you were dancin at a different disco
you, you were dancin at a different disco
you, you were dancin at a different disco
you, you were dancin at a different disco

you were dancin at a different disco ×16

Proof of Taste

Proof of Taste is my container project for building my identity as a musician. I have a voice, but I'm still finding my voice and learning to trust my instincts. It's the journey of coming home to the person I always was.

As a container project, I am open to collaborating with other musicians on my songs, particularly other queer & trans musicians. Although different disco is already taken by a couple of dear friends, I have three other songs slated for my EP.
